Rhyl’s Mayor 2013/14
Councillor Andy Rutherford was voted in as the new Mayor of Rhyl for 2013/14 on 15th May in the Council Chamber.
Councillor Rutherford thanked and congratulated the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Bill Tasker, and his Consort, Councillor Pete Prendergast, for all their hard work over the past year and for promoting Rhyl and its Town Council so well.
The Mayor confirmed that his Consort for the year ahead would be his partner and fellow Town Councillor James May and thanked James for his continued support.
Rev. Stan Walker will be Councillor Rutherford’s Chaplain and his chosen charities will be the Rhyl RNLI Lifeboat Station, St. Kentigern’s Hospice and The Children’s Theatre Club based in Rhyl’s Little Theatre.
Councillor Rutherford said that his focus for the year would be on ‘town and community’ and eluded to the challenges facing coastal towns like Rhyl throughout the whole of the UK and to seeing some light at the end of the tunnel thanks to real positive and committed drive which he hoped to build on by encouraging proper community engagement.
Finally he thanked Rhyl Town Councillors for putting their trust in him and for giving him the huge honour of becoming the Mayor of Rhyl and following in the footsteps of all who have gone before him. He promised to represent Rhyl and the Council to the very best of his ability.
“People are our number one asset and we’re lucky here in Rhyl to have such a diverse and vibrant community who can be relied on to help in times of need”
